Renovations, everywhere!

Renovations, everywhere! dbc has undergone a huge transformation over the last few months, and we’re still going! We’ve added an edit suite, a second bathroom (much to the rejoicing of clients everywhere!), and of course, extra bar space. A new window has gone in where our unused garage-style door formerly sat, giving the area a lot of natural light. Things are looking fabulous! Curious? Come down and say hi, check out the space, and stay for a drink!

Dead Rising 3 is almost here! We’re now happy to announce our collaboration with Capcom Vancouver on the third instalment of the Dead Rising franchise. Check it out next month as one of the release titles for the Xbox One!

James Franco was in the studio recording some ADR on a super secret project this month. Nice having you here, James!

Ice Pilots NWT is back in the Shag with mixer Jo Rossi! Now in it’s fifth season, we’re still happy to play a part in it’s post-production.

September 26th – October 11th are the dates for this year’s VIFF!

It’s been a while! 2013 has been amazing to us so far, and we’d love to share a little bit about what we’ve been up to the last few months.

HUGE congratulations to our tech guru Gordon Sproule, and former dbc-ers Jonny Ludgate and Jeff Davis for their big win at the Daytime Emmy Awards this year! The boys brought home the Emmy for ‘Outstanding Sound Editing – Animation‘ on Nerd Corps Entertainment’s “Slugterra”.

The television series ‘Arctic Air’ and ‘Motive’ kept us hard at work until April, and we’re happy to say we’ll be working with both crews again through this fall season! Arctic Air was renewed for a third season, while Motive was renewed for a second as well as making an internation sale to the USA. Congratulations! We can’t wait to see you all back in the fall.

Director Carl Bessai along with writer Brent Butt brought their film “No Clue” to mix in our Stage 2 theatre by the amazingly talented Gord Hillier and Miguel Nunes in May. Following up in June, we hosted the mix of ‘Sociable Films‘ latest feature “Afterparty” mixed by Gregor Phillips.

“Three Days in Havana” came to our mix theatre from Tony Pantages and Gil Bellows at the end of June, and after a long anticipating wait we can finally say how happy we are to have been a part of the production. Thanks guys!

In early July we saw “Reasonable Doubt” from our friend Dave Valleau, which mixed in our Stage 2 theatre by Bill Sheppard and Dean Giammarco. Check it out in January of 2014 when it releases!

We’re very sad to be saying goodbye to Peter Eliuk this month, who’s been our resident technician for the last 7 years. Thank you for the years of outstanding work Peter, and we wish you and your family nothing but the best in your next adventures!
Returning to the role of studio technician is Gord Sproule, a familiar face to us here at dbc. Welcome back to the team Gord, we’re glad to have you here!

Also starting new this month is the brand new CTV crime drama Motivepremiering Sunday, February 3rd after the Superbowl! Make sure to tune in then, but in the meantime to sate your curiosities, take a look at the cast over at ctv.com!

While work on Arctic Air continues through this month, we’ve had some other really exciting projects spending time in our studio…

Elysium, the next feature film from writer/director Neill Blomkamp (District 9) spent a week on our stage getting some temporary mix attention. The film, starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, is set to release in theatres August 9th, 2013. The cast and crew behind the film are all phenominal, and we’re very excited to have played a part in it all. Want to hear more? Check out Armadyne.net!

The Background walla group was on our stage this month recording for the animated feature film Escape From Planet Earth from Rainmaker Entertainment. Look out for the film hitting theatres on February 14th, 2013!

Work on Arctic Air Season 2 started up this month, and we’re so excited to see the crew back again. Last season was a blast, and we can’t wait to see what this one has in store!

Capcom was back in this month for some more time on our stage working on their super-secret project that we still can’t spill the beans about. You better believe it sounds amazing, though!

It’s finally summer!

It’s finally summer! We’re enjoying a little bit of down time this month, taking the time to enjoy the sun while we gear up for a busy fall season.

Some familiar faces (and films!) came back to dbc this month, including Kaare Andrews and his short film for “The ABC’s of Death”, and Jacob Medjuck with his film “Summerhood”. We’re touching up a few things for Summerhood’s recent international sales, and recording some ADR for Kaare’s short film. It’s always nice to have people back to the studio – good to see you again!

Speaking of last month’s awesome local gaming company, dbc is teaming up with our good friends at Capcom this month!

Speaking of last month’s awesome local gaming company, dbc is teaming up with our good friends at Capcom this month for more cinematic sounds on their upcoming title — we can’t tell you about just yet. Rest assured, it’s going to sound GREAT, and we’ll have more details for you as soon as we can talk about them!

June has been a month of ADR recording, for local films such as Armen Evrensel’s “Space Milkshake” and Katrin Bowen’s “Random Acts of Romance”. We’re looking forward to seeing Random Acts back in our studio for a mix in July, as we get started on editorial and sound design at the end of this month!
